8.30 A blast-from-the-past weekend
Wknd tips from former SETLISTEES, all playing around NYC this wknd
Wow, Fridays just keep comin, huh? NEVER GETS OLD!
(Also, been watching a whole lotta Full House reruns lately. ALSO NEVER GETS OLD!)
First off! A reminder that Bands do BK Vol. 21 is here…
So listen to that.
Second! Ultra-stoked to be moderating a freeeee-with-RSVP panel THIS WEDNESDAY, hosted by BdBK bffs New Colossus Fest x Groover.
The topic: How To Have Awesome Shows.
Best of all, there’s a show after the panel, featuring the musical stylingz of HNRY FLWR, Nory and Lola Coker. You can RSVP right here.
Annnd third! It’s a long weekend so we’re choosing to revel in it… and mostly, we’re bad at space and time and totally mixed up some dates… so no official SETLIST this week.
THAT SAID! you’ll be receiving both THE RIDER and THE SETLIST next wk, so tell the boss we’ll still be making our content quota ;)
And don’t worry — we’re not leaving you hanging. To spark some wknd ideas, plz find some inspiration from former SETLISTEES who are all playing shows around NYC this weekend…
POP MUSIC FEVER DREAM
Playing: Saturday (day!) @ New Colossus Festival Summer Saturdays at Strong Rope Brewery
With: Niño Disco, Violette Grim, Lily Desmond, Retail Drugs
“Not really sure what’s happening. There’s a series of doors, so I enter the first one. It’s Star Delicious. Guess it’s lunchtime. It’s my fav Colombian spot, and my order—a #11 with passionfruit juice, is waiting on a table in the booth. It’s eerily pristine in here, and there’s music playing (but it sounds like it’s playing in a hallway?) I eat as if it's the first meal I’ve ever had. There’s no one here—not even staff. I hear a banging coming from the inside of the walk-in freezer. It gets louder as I approach. It’s deafening standing out front, someone—or something—making the most terrifying noise. I open the freezer, but it’s the hallway again…”

NEW MYTHS
Playing: Saturday (night!) @ Baby’s All Right
With: Mother Feather, Two Girls NYC
“NEW MYTHS rises out of bed on Friday, realize they are incredibly hungry AND it’s finally sunny! So, the three ladies head over to a classic outdoor bar/food cart spot NOWADAYS in Bushwick to sit outside in the sun, grab a refreshing bloody mary and eat some next-level food cart tacos while listening to the scratchy scratchy of the local DJ on their turntables.
Later, after getting too much sun, and feeling even more dehydrated than they were before, they head over to one of their other favorite bars in Brooklyn, ALL NIGHT SKATE, to keep the party going and work in some Mortal Kombat II and NBA Jams….”

TVOD
Playing: Sunday (day/night!) @ Bands, Bikes & BBQ at TV Eye
With: Omni, Venus Twins, Valley Girls, The Licks, Michael Karson and more
“Morning - Band Dad and TVOD cult leader Tyler arises from his 3 hours of power sleep. He messages a pic to the group thread of the morning bowel movement he just unleashed into his toilet. Potty humor is commonplace in the TVOD group chat and for the most part dominates a lot of the band's conversations. It’s quite terrible. Usually the first to arise after Tyler and respond to the thread is the Sicilian/ Dr. of the crew, Jason. He usually greets the morning chat with an incessant plea to go to Tina’s Diner for breakfast (his second home), but no one ever responds. The third to arise is our newest member, Serge. He is the funniest of the crew and garners much praise with his witty jokes. Fourth to hop in the morning thread would probably be Mem, but only if he hasn’t been partying the night before…”

SKORTS
Playing: Sunday (night!) @ Soul Scream at Our Wicked Lady
With: Tony & The Kiki, Jonathan Toubin, Tenosh (DJ)
“The city is about to bubble over with hyper horny energy. The energy is too much to handle after a hard day’s work and as you hear the factory whistle blow, you wipe your grease stained knuckles clean, phone a friend and seek refuge.
Little Poland Restaurant in LES provides you that refuge. Boasting flyover state diner decor, a modest menu of traditional Polish food and a staff of lovely women that make it feel like you are home at moms. Or maybe the condo of a great aunt who always wanted children but “could never get the man or the timing right.” Either way, you feel loved here in this plastic wrapped booth. You place your usual shared order of potato lamb stew, 8 boiled pierogis and two Zywiec beers. A small feast and all for well under $20 a head….”
