THE RIDER: Lowhency Pierre's Top 10
The singer-songwriter and producer on guitar, gratitude and his Bob the Builder-esque aspirations
Hello! Hello! Hijacking your inboxes once more this hump day to give you the lowdown on the latest single from NYC native Lowhency Pierre!
“MAKE A FOOL OF YOU” dropped back in February, but no worries if you’re late to this particular party, as the theme — file under: millennial dating difficulties — is one that’s not just relatable but totally timeless.
“Why do you hesitate? / You led me all this way / Are you giving up now?”
“This song is about dating as a millennial (specifically in LA), and how someone will embarrass or break you down with their true colors sooner or later,” Lowhency says of the track. [Editor’s note: We *hear* it’s applicable to NYC as well.] “Sonically, it's a bit of a departure from my previous work, but it’s a true reflection of who I am in this current moment.”
As for the production brains behind the scenes, well—that would be Lowhency as well.
“After months of trying to meet the 'right' producers and such, the universe sent me signs directed towards Myself to get sh*t done,” Lowhency shared in a post about the release.
Check out two versions of the singer-songwriter/producer’s (!) newest single and read on for his Top 10 — a list featuring his favorite cocktail, top coffeeshop and favorite online coping mechanism.
Then please join us (+ the rest of our generation) in the perpetually humbling act that is looking 4 love. It’s gotta be around here somewhere…
LOWHENCY PIERRE’S TOP 10
1. Negroni Cocktail
If you knew me in college, you wouldn’t have guessed I’d become a gin guy years later! The Negroni is my go-to drink whenever I’m at a cocktail bar with friends or on a date. It has the perfect balance of bitterness and sweetness - I love the licorice aftertaste! Whenever I visit a new spot, I judge it based on how good the bartender can make their Negroni!
2. Physical Activity
I enjoy starting my day off with a morning workout or a stretch if I'm short on time. It sets a positive and productive tone for my day, and gives me mental clarity and confidence.
3. Live Music
Hearing your favorite songs come to life at a concert is literally the best feeling in the world! It’s warm and euphoric.
4. Bob the Builder
This one might be a bit nerdy, but one of my favorite past times is watching home renovations and home tours on HGTV and Architectural Digest. I find it satisfying to see designers use their creativity to come up with a plan to remodel a specific area of a home, or renovate an entire home, and seeing the finished product at the end. It’s something I’d definitely would like to take up at some point. I wanna design, select materials, furniture, put in some sweat equity- like.. really get into it.
5. Coffee
Desperately, need it. Can’t start my day without it. Black, no cream, no sugar. Shoutout to Variety Coffee on Wyckoff!
6. Tumblr
Tumblr is so back. Lowkey, it's always been one of the most relaxing social media platforms out there! Curating a blog full of aesthetically pleasing art (mainly photographs) is my coping mechanism.
7. Thrifting
A majority of the clothes in my closet are vintage / thrifted items. Growing up in Queens, NY, I didn't really have access to the new and hip clothes that my friends wore, but I found away around that once I was introduced to shops like: the Salvation Army, Beacon’s Closet, My Unique, etc. Some folks think it’s gross, but I find it pretty rad to give clothes another life - it’s sustainable, and often you're finding one-of-a-kind pieces.
8. YouTube Rabbit Holes
What's the craziest one you've ever fallen down?
9. Practice, Practice, Practice
I’ve played guitar on and off throughout my life, and in the past year or so I’ve decided to take it a bit more seriously. My curiosity has led me to become more disciplined, and it feels rewarding and true. You can expect to hear my guitar debut on my upcoming project later this year.
10. Moments of Gratitude
Making it a habit to take the time out to pause and appreciate what I have, through the good and the bad.
