THE RIDER: Debbie Dopamine's Top 10
Ahead of their show at OWL this Wednesday, the band on meditation, Modest Mouse and Matilda the bearded dragon
For the uninitiated, Brooklyn band Debbie Dopamine “is your depressive episode set to sound.” Last July, Katie Ortiz of the band even crafted us a GRIEF GIRL SUMMER PLAYLIST (a list of tunes that’s equally appropriate for #griefgirlspring, in case you were wondering).
The latest addition to the band’s catalogue of tunes for the not-quite-best-of-times is the single “Worried” (dropped exactly one month ago), which the band says “wafts from a sinister pit of gloominess recognizable to anyone familiar with depressive episodes and bouts of self-loathing, when the voices of concern begin to meld with the voices in your head.”
Listen, enjoy and don’t miss the soundtrack to your depressive episode in *~*~* LiVe FoRm *~*~* THIS WEDNESDAY(4/24) when Debbie Dopamine hits the Our Wicked Lady roof for Arlo Indigo’s “Dead Inside” (on theme here) single-release show, alongside Go Home and Emily Jeanne Brown.
Grab your tix here, and then—because this issss THE RIDER—read on for what Debbie Dopamine, one of our favorite BK bands, is digging right now…
DEBBIE DOPAMINE’S TOP 10
1. Canyon delay pedal / delay pedals in general
Between Dylan and I we have 5 on stage at all times! If you hear us making deliciously vibey spacey ghost-y tones, thank our plentiful delays.
2. Pb&j at the gig
We are thrifty (and hungry) folk. Pro tip: wait to eat it after your set so you don't have peanut butter mouth while singing. Rookie mistake.
3. Bubs (seltzer)
A big liter bottle of bubs has gotten us through many a long practice or recording day. Spicy water keeps ya alert and on your toes!
4. Public library card
Libraries are the most punk rock! Free books, wifi, resources, printing, classes, and more. It's also where I do all my booking emails from :)
5. Invigorating Jalapeños
Dylan is responsible for bringing this trick to the table - a healthy dose of something sharp & spicy can bring you back from the dead. This summer we went on a band camping trip which including hiking Mt. Washington, the tallest mountain in the Northeast. Every time we thought we couldn't go a step further, we'd chomp a slice. Like a delicious slap across the ol' face!
6. Matilda the bearded dragon
Our official mascot band lizard! Likes: the color red, sunshine, biting fingers. Dislikes: the broom, birds, too many leafy greens :(
7. Modest Mouse
No long car ride is complete without The Lonesome Crowded West.
8. Meditation breaks
We try our best to be mindful little debbies! Expert level: engaging in Wim Hof breathing.
9. Emotional Support Water Bottle
Never leave home without it!
10. Drunk texting each other we love each other
It's sappy but true <3
