Just popping in to say...
We're still alive, baby! Here's a little news and a whole lotta tunes (plus a FREE Halloween show this afternoon).
Hello. A pleasure to be back inside your inbox.
First and foremost, HUGE CONGRATS to BdBK pals SKORTS (pictured above) whose debut album Incompletement is OUT NOW!
Check out a track-by-track from the band on bandsdobk.com, then catch them alongside Balaclava, TVOD and Bec Lauder & The Noise for free THIS AFTERNOON at Tompkins Square Park, courtesy of Show Brain.
As an update, there are a few RIDERS in the works, including one celebrating the new Frida Kill album City Gurl (out 11/7) ahead of the release show (11/9) with the absolute bonkers bill that is TVOD, 95 Bulls and Witch Slap. So STAY TUNED FOR THAT! And despite the fact we’re at peak autumn, proceed to get properly prepped with this summery vid:
NOW LET’S TALK PLAYLISTS
At long last, BANDS DO BK VOL. 22 is out now!
Not all new songs. Just cool/fun tracks from local bands we love (/ have just become acquainted with) that have come out since… well, Bands do BK Vol. 21. (Been a while.)
Just keep discovering new ways Spotify is definitely the devil, so please use this as a discovery tool, then find better ways to support these bands (versus this AI battle-bot bullshit) via platforms like Bandcamp + IRL in NYC.
On the ~international front~ :
It was an honor/privilege/pleasure to attend Ireland Music Week!
Between Fontaines D.C. (learned recently they’re named for a Dublin pizza spot), Kneecap, CMAT and more (Gurriers are also killing it!), Ireland is absolutely on fire, and IMW was a super-sick showcase featuring some of the incredible indie talent brewing on that beautiful isle.
What a time to be alive—
Pour yourself a Guinness, find a few new faves.
AS FOR EVENTS…
It’s the TURKEY SLAMDOWN!!!!!
Our annual fundraiser for Make the Road NY is back and—given the despicable nature of the current administration—more important than ever before.
Come out November 15th for a night of music supporting this org in their critical mission to “[build] the power of immigrant and working class communities to achieve dignity and justice.”
Bands include My Son the Doctor (BdBK bffs + organizers), Ok Cowgirl, Boy Brooks, Big Girl and Jawndarme + a Native Sun DJ set—and, as is custom, tattoos to make those music memories last <3
All to benefit Make the Road.
AND!
The next Strong Little Songs living room show will be about a week and a half from now (exact date a little in flux) with Arlo Indigo, Grace Corsi, Frankie Sunswept and Lila Blue, benefitting Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund. So stay tuned for that announcement on IG. As always: music + cookies + a very good cause.
Oh, and while we’re on the general topic of nice things to do—
GET OUT AND VOTE ZOHRAN MAMDANI!
This weird feeling is called hope (I know; been a while!), and even though we’ve been so burned before, you’ve still got to go vote. It does matter. And now is the time to show up for your neighbors and vote for people and progress.
Many thx <3 <3 <3
+ ONE MORE THING
We’re bringing back CLASSIFIEDS!
Over the years, we’ve been proud to help artists bypass the bullshit of Craigslist to connect, collaborate and find the guitarists/bassists/drummers/harmonica pros they need to make their projects complete. It’s called community building, baby! Now we’re givin’ it a fresh start.
If you’re a creative seeking project(s) or partner(s) and would like to post a free ad, SUBMIT HERE. And spread the word :)
Thanks for reading! Have a safe and spooky Halloween and a very good weekend <3
