9.27 A wknd w/ Book/Spirit
The band on bounce houses, (bowling)shoegaze and their show TONIGHT at Our Wicked Lady
Happy Friday! Sincerely hope you consumed fewer plastic cups full of prosecco at Brooklyn Made than we did last night.
Either way: WE. SHALL. PERSEVERE. In this instance, with a more forward-slash-full headline than usual in honor of your SETLIST stars Book/Spirit (for the record, *pretty* sure the slash is silent), who are playing on the Our Wicked Lady rooftop TONIGHT!
Our friend/fan-ship with Book/Spirit began last November, when we premiered the band’s second single “Haunt You”—a track inspired by a Glenn Ligon painting in the Philadelphia Art Museum (they’re cool/cultured!)—and it’s an appreciation that deepened further with the release of the band’s album Easements, which dropped earlier this year. (On the sonic-description front, we’re not going to try and outdo the pros at Get Some Magazine, who described the band’s sound as akin to “Pixies and early-Queens of the Stone Age covering Slowdive.” There you have it!)
As for that name, Book/Spirit was chosen to “[evoke] the interplay between matter and spirit and [reflect] the diverse and, at times, opposing creative influences within the band.” Though, as bonus band trivia, let it be known that before arriving at Book/Spirit, the group played their first show under the name The DeBlasibros. (We’re told it was a joke… but honestly we kind of dig it.)
ALRIGHT! The world outside the screen (+ maybe a nap) is calling, and we must go. Please read n enjoy the wknd plan, kindly provided by burrata fans/breakfast aficionados/bouncy-house enthusiasts Book/Spirit, below.
Hope you have a real, real nice one <3

FRIDAY
Congratulations! You made it through another week, and it's time to party! The main event of tonight is our rooftop show at Our Wicked Lady, near the Morgan Avenue stop on the L so that's where we heading for pre-show dinner. If you're lucky enough to be able to snag last minute res or walk-in at Otis, go there and experience the blissful buratta. As a back-up, you can grab some slices at Roberta's.
Make your way over to Our Wicked Lady by 7:30 sharp when the music starts. Roacher will be starting off the evening, followed by our friends Hot Mart from Philadelphia, and then Ranch Ranch, before we close out the night!
The vibes are high, and the night is young! Hop back on the L towards Broadway Junction, and make your way to AUX Karaoke Box for some post-show, late-night karaoke to keep the good vibes going. If history repeats itself, you may get to see our two lead singers, Pete and Mike, stare each down during a passionate duet of Fleetwood Mac's “Silver Springs” that rivals the band's famed 1997 performance.
SATURDAY
If you karaoked like you know what you're doing, it's highly likely you're a bit banged up in the morning. Shake it off quickly cause we've got a busy Saturday planned. Stop off at Peter Pan Doughnut & Pastry Shop in Greenpoint for a breakfast sandwich and a donut on your way to the G to catch the 7 train.
Take the 7 out to Citi Field (LFGM) to spend your afternoon playing in bouncy houses at The Big Bounce America, the largest touring inflatable event in the world. A little bit of bouncing and chilling an inflatable house is good for the soul; trust us, you're never too old for a bouncy house. For Mike's 30th birthday, we serendipitously had our own private bouncy house, thanks to members of our party who were able to negotiate with the rental company who were operating it at a church fair across the street from our Airbnb during the afternoon. [Scroll to end of The SETLIST for photographic evidence]
After you've bounced to your heart's content, head back the way you came and stop off in Greenpoint. Grab tacos at Taqueria Ramirez and then head to Lake Street bar to watch the Mets game for the last weekend of regular season baseball as they prepare for a magical postseason run. [Note: at the time of this writing, the Mets were in possession for a wildcard spot; we sincerely hope they haven't blown this.]
SUNDAY
After breakfast on-the-go yesterday, you deserve a proper sit-down breakfast. You require a breakfast of champions, and we're heading to Carroll Gardens to get it. Make your way to the F or G train, get off at Carroll Street, and head to Breakfast by Salt's Cure. Enjoy some of their amazing griddle cakes served to you by our own drummer Garrett.
Make your way back to Williamsburg and walk through McCarren Park to catch some afternoon (bowling)shoegaze at The Gutter where some of our friends are playing a matinee show at 3. After we bathe in the sounds of Hesitant, Gilah, Frostwound and Honeycrush, we may even take to the lanes ourselves. (Also, be on the lookout for an upcoming show announcement for a show we're doing with Gilah later this year!)
After you've bowled a gentleman's 40 at The Gutter, have an early nightcap at one of favorite outdoor spots, The Lot Radio. If you mention that you'd like the "Book/Spirit fan discount" to the server, they won't know what you're talking about, but you should still mention it anyways.
Itinerary above written + submitted by Book/Spirit. Follow the band at @bookspiritband, buy music on Bandcamp and add the songs to your Spotify playlists!
