!TGIF! DO THE DAMN THING WITH GRIM STREAKER

The first time we were blown away by Grim Streaker was a show in the basement of Cape House (RIP) during Northside Festival (RIP?) in 2017—approx 200 years ago in NYC time, back when our brains weren’t as fried, our cc debt wasn’t as high and our bods were way way more spry (RIP! RIP! RIP!!!!!).

But here’s the greatest of good news. While the group’s been a little quiet for the last year and a half, unlike certain bars, fests, bank accounts and fairly integral organs, Grim’s def not dead, guys. You can leave the band out of the body count, because this iconic Brooklyn act is hitting the stage for the first time since before the pandemic for ONE NIGHT ONLY in 2021 at The Broadway THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!

We suggest you start pre-gaming the performance now with the band’s 2019 record No Vision, which—good news if you’re feeling groggy—is (un)scientifically proven to be the energy-packed music equivalent of like 87 cups of coffee.

PLUS! because we’re the biggest of Amelia Bushell fans, we can’t mention Grim Streaker without including a shoutout to the frontwoman’s newest project, Extra Special. The debut record, Lazy About It, dropped last October, and if you’d rather sob your way through this Friday morning than punch a hole in your apartment dry wall, this absolutely perfect EP has got you covered.

Now ONTO THE WEEKEND! Grab your tix to Grim Streaker’s show with Consumables before that shit sells out and proceed to enjoy three days of good, Grim fun via the itinerary below, kindly provided by who else but the members of the band themselves.

[BUT FIRST: PRESS PLAY]

FRIDAY

-Grab yourself a morning bagel at Greenbergs in Bed-Stuy. Classic New York bagels that often sell out, so get there early! Be sure to order online before hand to avoid waiting. They’ll give you a pick-up window of time.

-Get happy hour drinks at Union Pool’s patio but don’t stay past 8. Grab a few tacos from El Diablo Taco truck which is right there in the backyard.

-Head to one of two killer shows we would recommend tonight: Surfbort, Dreamcrusher and Gnarcissists at Baby’s All Right or Nation Of Language and Public Practice at Bowery Ballroom.

-Order late night pizza from Rosie (the new pizza joint where Archie’s used to be). It’s almost better than Archies and open until 4am on weekends. The sauce is rich and the crust is thick and fluffy.

SATURDAY

-Wake up late and head to Win Son for some Taiwanese grub served on a lazy Susan. Order the marinated cucumbers, sesame noodles and scallion pancakes with a sweet soy + chili sauce to die for.

-Grab a few drinks to-go and take a stroll to chill in Maria Hernandez park in Bushwick with some pals.

-Then Head to Trans Pecos for a late afternoon of Bands, Bikes and BBQ hosted by Elena “Tiny Hands”

-Then scoot over to The Broadway to catch our Grim Streaker show with Safer* and Consumables at 8pm! It will be a party, we promise.

SUNDAY

- Start with coffee at Oslo on Roebling St. Coffee is great and I feel like they play a lot of Billy Bragg, which is always good. There's a big sitting area inside to aimlessly leaf through newspapers, but the best is that out front, there's always a big gang of older people sitting in Adirondack chairs having hilarious conversations about the senior dating world.

- Next, take the ferry to Rockaway Beach. It takes forever, but is way more fun than sitting in traffic or sitting on the subway. Rippers and Caracas are classic spots, but Tacoway Beach is a really good surf bar with awesome fish tacos. And it's a little off the boardwalk so it's usually more chill than a lot of other spots nearby.

- Get back to Brooklyn and hit Baoburg in Greenpoint. It's awesome Thai street food. They got good bao (obv) but the kra pow is AMAZING. The backyard is also a good spot for frozen cocktails.

Many creatives we know lost valuable equipment, creative works and more in the horrendous weather last week. Greenway Records and Acid Dad got hit particularly hard, with a space that was flooded with waist-deep water, resulting in irreparable damage to equipment, instruments, merch, vinyl and more. If you have the means, consider donating to their Gofundme to help our friends in the community recover.
