7.23 A wknd w/ Raman Mama
The Bushwick creator on vintage shopping, second coffees and Saturday's secret rooftop show
!TGIF! DO THE DAMN THING W/ RAMAN MAMA
When working on this post about Raman Mama, we had to scratch the first draft because it sounded like we were giving the best (wo)man toast at his wedding. Or maybe a eulogy? Something like that. Basically, it was a long list of his great characteristics, focused mostly on how he’s one of those people you always want in a room with you—the kind of individual who possesses a positive energy and easygoing cool, and that everyone instantly falls in love with. (Whoops, guess we just did it again?!)
That said, he’s not just a great human. He’s also a killer artist. And while you can’t, of course, separate the producer from the person, we can at least shift the spotlight for a sec to focus on his work.
ICYMI, Raman dropped his EP Souvenir in May, and it is, as the youths might say, a viiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiibe. Five chill af songs that serve as the perfect soundtrack for writing/working/smoking/swaying/staring out the window… basically your fill-in-the-blank activity of choice.
“I love lofi because it’s such a broad genre and medium for emotional expression,” Raman told us of his fondness for the music style, a sonic passion he’s channeled into tracks like “From The Clouds” and “Universe”—titles which, whether intentionally or inadvertently, are perfectly aligned with the high-altitude location of this weekend’s secret show.
Speaking of the weekend, check out Raman’s picks for yours below, then catch him perform LIVE under the stars on a Bushwick rooftop THIS SATURDAY and prepare to *~*~*~space out~*~*~* in the best way—
Which, for the record, is one that’s ~100000000% more Brooklyn than Bezos.

FRIDAY NIGHT
Have dinner at Don Andres, a hidden gem and one of the best Mexican food places in Bushwick. My secret is the shrimp burrito. If you’re lucky, they’ll let you add calamari ;).
Molasses Books has a collection of amazing titles and great drinks as well as a lounge for mingling. Ask the owners Matt and Maggie to show you their awesome wine collection.
Alberto & Sons vintage shopping is the best place to go after browsing books. You’ll find things you didn’t know you were looking for, like a vinyl of Billy Joel’s Glass Houses.
SATURDAY
Maria Hernandez Park is a good place to start the day, walk around enjoy the morning while listening to the birds sing.
Have a coffee with a friend at the Bushwick Public House and watch people pass by on Myrtle Avenue.
Stop by my secret Rooftop Show - see four great artists jam out with a killer view of the city.
SUNDAY
Have your second coffee of the weekend at FirstLive US. Meet Danny, one of Brooklyn’s mastermind music and event producers.
Have lunch at Hartbreakers, one of the best vegan spots in Brooklyn. Ask about their chikn tenders, made of seitan and soy!
Finish your weekend at Second Hand Records, finding inspiration for the tunes to close out your weekend.
