5.9 A wknd w/ I, Doris
London's ~mummycore kitchenpunk~ band on magic bagels, magic books and the 11-act LOUD WOMEN FEST this Saturday at 3 Dollar Bill
“What’s in a genre? That which we call an indie band by any other bandcamp tag would smell as sweet…”
— Shakespeare (obviously). But despite the fact art ain’t gotta be about labelz man, sometimes a band has creatively classified themselves with a dropdown-menu-defying description that’s catchy, irresistible and all-around pretty perfect.
Enter London’s I, Doris, a “mummycore kitchenpunk” band who (bless!) is gracing our side of the pond THIS WEEKEND for LOUD WOMEN FEST NYC—the local (to us) installment of an international event put together by the org of the same name (LOUD WOMEN), which operates with the v sick mission of “putting more women on more stages, and turning up the volume.”
GRAB YOUR TIX HERE! Then don your… apron (?), grab your ear plugs and head out to catch Saturday’s all-day event featuring an 11-band bill stacked with sick local acts and a few bonus Brits—including, of course, your SETLIST stars I, Doris, who promise to be “dancing like your actual mom.” (We all have our own very specific visuals there…)
Once you’ve done that, begin the sonic exploration of your fave new genre…
… as you READ ON for a lovingly written itinerary — complete with lovingly curated playlist —from the New York vets in I, Doris, who are clearly more than ready to be taking NYC by storm all wknd long.

Hello! We are I, Doris – a mummycore kitchenpunk band from London. We’re coming back to New York for LOUD WOMEN Fest NYC at 3 Dollar Bill on Saturday, 10 May, and, truth be told, we are very excited. Our last trip to the city was in 2019, and we had a blast. We spent way too much time shopping, played to the friendliest crowd of New Yorkers ever, and ate the best pizza of our lives. So, this time? We’re planning to do it all over again.
We can’t pretend we know New York like locals. We don’t. But we do know how to have a good time. So, here’s an I, Doris-approved NYC weekend itinerary for a slightly exhausting but extremely fun weekend in the city. And here’s a playlist to soundtrack it.
FRIDAY
Hot bevs to start then. Strictly speaking, we’re tea-drinkers – that’s hot tea with milk … yeah, we know you guys don’t get it. But while in NYC we’ll be doing as the New Yorkers do and swapping the leaf for the bean. Try Variety Coffee Roasters. We hear it’s amazing and it’s got all the cool, artsy vibes you’d expect from a Brooklyn coffee shop.
We love a bit of a shopping spree, and when we were here in 2019 we spent way too much time in C.O. Bigelow Apothecary, which is a seriously cool, independent beauty store. From skincare to makeup, they've got it all. Perfect place to get that glowy, sparkly look you need for the weekend.
We’re also still thinking about that pizza we had in 2019, so we’re heading straight back to Vinnie’s Pizzeria. The slices are the size of your head, and we can assure you that no one will judge you if you eat the whole thing. Seriously, you have to try it. And yes, we’re getting multiple slices, because carbs are life.
After all that shopping and eating, and (no doubt some getting lost on the subway), we’ll be ready to hit up a killer show. Frankie Fest 2025 is happening on Friday night, 9 May at Our Wicked Lady. It’s a queer, femme-fronted rock festival that honors the life of Frankie Rex, and with 11 bands on the bill (Turbo Goth, Suroor, Cat Crash, Bad Static, Villins, Miss Cherry Delight, T@b Grrrl, Late Cambrian, Izzy True, & The FMs), you’re guaranteed a night full of amazing live music, electric energy, and punk vibes. Plus, it’s the perfect warm-up for a weekend of feminist punk joy.
SATURDAY
We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially when you're in NYC. We went to Russ & Daughters on our last trip and, honestly, it was life-changing. The bagels there were pure magic. It’s the best way to line your stomach before the chaos of the day begins. Grab a bagel with lox, get the cream cheese, and try not to feel like an absolute legend.
It’s finally time. We’ve been waiting to come back to New York for this. We’re playing at LOUD WOMEN Fest NYC at 3 Dollar Bill, and we couldn’t be more pumped. It's all happening Saturday 10 May from 2pm – and we’re ready to bring the noise.
Get ready for some incredible bands:
Choked Up – NYC-based pop-punk powerhouse, serving up fiery riffs, heartfelt bilingual lyrics, and anthems packed with raw emotion
Desert Sharks – Brooklyn-based grunge punks , known for their heavy riffs, soaring vocals, and high-energy performances
Dubais – “It’s like if Ata Kak and Saint Etienne went to an Egyptian Lover show and smoked a lot of weed with Minnie Mouse”. Nadia is also based in the UK, although she’s an American gal originally. She also plays in the band Snoozers.
Eevie Echoes & The Locations – Brooklyn queercore punks bringing fierce activism, raw power, pure emotion, and radical authenticity.
I, Doris – oh hey that’s us! We are the LOUD WOMEN house band I guess.
Ro Redfern – NYC’s folk-punk storyteller, blending raw emotion with sharp, melodic songwriting
ShyGodwin – a hardcore-punk band from Philadephia melting faces with their high energy live performances
Slut Magic – Brooklyn’s spellbinding indie punks, weaving gritty riffs, hypnotic vocals, and darkwave energy into their electrifying performances
Sorry Darling – NYC power pop darlings
Typhoid Rosie – High-energy, sing-along 90s style power punk with pop hooks and indie grit out of Brooklyn
Yacko – Indonesian hip-hop trailblazer Yacko delivers razor-sharp rhymes and electrifying performances that challenge societal norms and advocate for gender equality
You’ll want to catch all these sets so be sure to get there for doors opening at 2pm – wear your dancing shoes.
LOUD WOMEN Fest finishes at 11pm, then we’re sticking around at 3 Dollar Bill for a WONDER-FULL Party. DJ Spinna will be spinning all the best of Stevie Wonder’s music, from funky grooves to soulful classics. It’s going to be a dance party for the ages, and it’s the perfect way to cap off the night. We’ll be there dancing like your actual mom, so come join us if you’re in the mood for some late-night grooves and moves.
SUNDAY
By Sunday morning, the coffee situation is going to be serious. We’d suggest heading straight to Toby’s Estate Coffee for a massive caffeine fix. We’re told this place is good for when you need to wake up, clear the fog, and try and piece together what happened last night on the dance floor...
After a wild weekend, we’ll probably in need of some peace and quiet. What better place than McCarren Park? Lie in the grass, stare at the sky, and reflect on all the amazing things you’ve done. Maybe even nap for a bit. We love a nap.
We want hit up Books Are Magic for a little something to read on the plane home. We’re told this is a great place to lose track of time and come out armed with books (and cool totes).
To finish off the weekend in style, head to Brooklyn Paramount to catch Japanese Breakfast. Their emotionally charged indie pop is perfect for a mellow yet powerful end to a wild weekend. Expect lush arrangements, stunning vocals, and a vibe that will leave you full of feels. It's the perfect way to wind down after a beautifully jam-packed weekend in NYC.
