5.17 A wknd w/ Away Fans
The 75% British band on football ("not soccer"), corndog buckets (is that really a thing?) and their THREE shows in NYC this weekend
WEEKEND’S HERE, WANKERS!
On a scale of 1-10, not really sure how offensive that address is, honestly. Given the fact that Brits tend to throw around the word cunt pretty casually—and it might even be a term of endearment?—all bets are off! (Cultural differences, AMIRIGHT?!)
Let’s try again: WEEKEND’S HERE, MATES! And the reason that we’re leaning waaaay too hard into this weird English angle is that, at long last, our London-based friends Away Fans have arrived from across the pond to destroy three stages—and, based on the party-boi vibez we’re getting, get destroyed in at least three bars—around our fair city, alongside a dozen local bands that we love:
5.17 OUR WICKED LADY w/ Caitlin Starr / Short Porch / Skylar Pocket - TIX HERE
5.18 @ RUBULAD w/ Komodos / Rosso Rosso / Fare Evasion - TIX HERE
5.19 ARLENE’S GROCERY w/ Beeyotch / Cortez, Too / Smoke Break - TIX HERE
Away Fans’ origin story is a sweet one: The four pals met in and around Northeast London dives, where they bonded over their mutual love of cheap pints, sticky floors and ~filthy basslines.~ Tale as old as time.
Now, a year after we met them in the UK last May, we’re thrilled to have played a small role in getting the gents stateside, where they’re ready and roarin’ to serve up their signature brand of “snarling, danceable rock n roll” complete with lyrics that “focus on the highs, lows and hedonism of growing up and living in the city.” You might know a little bit about that.
Fun kicks off on the OWL rooftop LATE tonight (music at 11!), so grab a disco nap, shotgun a Red Bull, and we’ll see ya at the show(s)—
Now onto the weekend! We’ll let the lads take it away…

Away Fans x New York
Brits* on tour!
Away Fans over from London, England here, ready to drink your dive bars dry, spend tens of dollars on dollar pizza, and hopefully make a few of you boogie.
FRIDAY
Start the day slowly, hit up Ayat Palestinian restaurant for some breakfast and a coffee in the morning.
Tourist stuff. Staten Island Ferry etc. The weather’s been looking a bit dodge with thunderstorms predicted so we are largely planning to wing it and see what the vibe is on the day.
Come see us at Our Wicked Lady in Brooklyn. This is the first time half of us have been in New York and we're starting off with a rooftop in Brooklyn, how epic.
SATURDAY
Hopefully the weather's decent enough for us to cycle** around Central Park and get the dust off from the night before, and once we've recovered we’ll head down to Coney Island for some buckets of margaritas and corndogs.
Then gig 2, come see us at Rubulad. Super excited for this show, the venue looks amazing. We’ve got someone coming in to film this one so hope to get the room rocking.
SUNDAY
We may have just come from the UK but it’s the final day of the premier league so we are sinking our teeth*** into some football (not soccer xoxo) at 11am.
Katz's Deli for lunch to fuel up and line our stomachs before the final show.
Come and see us at Arlene’s Grocery, a little slice of New York history and a venue we've dreamed of playing since we were tiny Strokes fans.
*Our drummer Matt is actually from New Zealand
**Our bassist Dave can’t ride a bike
***Our guitarist has no teeth
Follow us on insta @awayfans.band to keep up with the antics. Massive thanks to Sam Sumpta for pulling this gig itinerary together, what a legend!
