5.12 A wknd w/ Go Home
The band on Arts & Culture ™, calling your mom (!) and their FREE Saturday-afternoon show at 18th Ward Brewing
Hip, hip, cheerio! We apologize for this comin’ in a lil late this aft, but we’re still running on London time (which technically means we’re five hours later, but don’t you worry about that, dahling). Also, pretty stoked to be eating a vegetable for the first time in, umm, recent memory. So that’s nice.
ICYMI, we just spent 10 days bouncing around the UK with Brooklyn’s Mary Shelley, who last weekend basically became the FOCUS Wales house band, playing three bonus shows on top of their scheduled three at the extremely rad Wrexham festival (we missed Ryan Reynolds by one day btw) for a total of 11 across-the-pond performances in 8 days. Songs were sung, hearts were won, a few tumbles were taken and v nice things were said/written/screamed by new fans, new friends and a variety outlets including, but not limited to, a certain lil one known as the BBC.
All in all: jolly good time. No one is one bit tired at all.
ANYWAY! They tell us all good things must come to an end! And come this week, it wasn’t just go big or go home but go big then go home for Go Home—the NYC art-rock band who will be playing our New Colossus x BdBK freeeeee SUMMER SATURDAY showcase TOMORROW at 18th Ward Brewing with partygirl, Niño Disco, Valendina and Sue Your Landlord!
Visual aid:
For those unfamiliar with the glorious band that is Go Home, the Go Homies include Zak Houston, Travis Emery Hackett and Marlena Mack, a group of “delinquent theatre kids,” true artists and busy bees who are currently rolling out singles from their forthcoming debut album Bug (recorded by Steve Albini in Chicago and mastered by Heba Kadry in Brooklyn).
We had the privilege of premiering their single “Tara Dreams in Spanish” on BdBK back in February, during which we offered the following testimony:
“I first encountered Go Home when I booked them at Arlene’s Grocery back in September, where they blew my ears/mind/heart with their talent, creativity and chemistry, performing a set of such depth and beauty that the audience, myself very much included, was left stunned and speechless in a way I’ve only witnessed a few times in my life.”
AND THAT’S NOT EVEN HYPERBOLE! THEY’RE SERIOUSLY SO FUCKING GOOD!!!
But don’t take our word(s) for it. Spend your Saturday afternoon soaking up sweet tunes from what’s become one of our favorite BK bands (+ 4 others we really love) and then spend the rest of the weekend doing… well, exactly what Go Home tells you to do. Trust us:: you can trust them. Instructions below.
ALRIGHT! It is gooooood 2 be back in Brooklyn! And this wknd is def gonna be a good one. Catch ya out there <3

FRIDAY
Our high-brow weekend reset is the Avedon 100 exhibition, because nothing says IT'S TIME FOR ART like meandering through the Gagosian. After that we're bidding Manhattan adieu for a while; trading our work drag for hawt clothes (read: our *nice* coveralls) and treating ourselves to a Venezuelan feast at Casa Ora. Then we're visiting Bushwick Public House to see the punk and perfect Abbie Roper. We're hitting the free arcade at Wonderville on the way home and then calling it a night because we're old.
SATURDAY
We're up early because a bunch of tiny animals screamed at us. We're headed to Maria Hernandez to do Baguazhang in the park, but first we're caffeinating at Wyckoff Star (saying hi to Mike from Imaginary Tricks) and afterward we're caffeinating again at Variety Coffee just down the road (the cold brew is mean but the faces are friendly! - Travis). We're riding bikes through Bushwick (roll for damage) and then *obviously* we're at 18th Ward Brewing Co. for New Colossus Festival's Summer Saturday Series. *Obviously* we're staying all day and listening to the free music. *Obviously* we're grabbing drinks and practicing dance moves in the street. And *obviously* we're going to snag a six-pack and head to Tortilleria Mexicana Los Hermanos afterward, which is delightfully BYOB (come with??). Then we're heading to The Brick Theatre for the encore performance of Help Me Draw Your Feelings by William Burke (v sophisticated). We go to bed sated by Arts & Culture ™. The tiny animals tuck us in.
SUNDAY
We hit Norma's in Ridgewood for coffee and a breakfast sandwich with the density of a dying star. After fueling up IT'S MOTHER'S DAY AND WE'RE CALLING MOM, WE'RE EXPRESSING GRATITUDE AND LOVE, WE'RE REMINDING HER SHE IS A BEAUTIFUL ANGEL. Love you ma.
From there we're participating in a quick championship game of wallball (if you know you know) and then heading back to Wburg to hyperfixate on the graphic novels at Desert Island (this may take 1-7 hours). After that, we'll make our way to C'mon Everybody to witness the supreme talent at Bitch Fest, hosted by La Zavaleta. Now we are Weary, and the hour is Late, and work is so very In A Few Hours. The tiny animals arrive. They pick us up by our clothes. Until next weekend-- it is time to Go Home.

MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS
A huge HOT DAMN and THANK YOU to Our Wicked Lady, the organizers and all the bands that performed in the Rights of Spring Festival that raised $6,300 for New York Abortion Access Fund last weekend! THIS is what community looks like. Much love to all. <3
In friends-doing-cool-shit news, BdBK pal Zach Ellis (aka Dead Tooth) just revealed an especially sick project he’s been working on: writing a song for a fictional band called Ex Post Facto that serves as the title track for the new Apple TV+ show City on Fire, which takes place in the early 2000s NYC indie-rock scene. (He was also apparently hired as a music consultant to build the live band for one episode of the show and coach its actors on how to deliver a punk-rock performance. We honestly can’t think of anyone more qualified to teach that particular art.) Full details in the artist’s own words here. WE LOVE TO SEE IT!!
NEW CLASSIFIEDS ARE UPON US! And damn it’d be good to be a bassist. Union Fool, Torture and the Desert Spiders, Punk Jimmy and Sunshine Convention are all in need of one of those, while Stripes wants bandmates, Dapinkpopstar is searching for a live performance crew and Alex Robertson/Silent Light is looking for a band to join. (Plus: more more more!) Find the full listings complete with contact info here, and remember you can post a FREE ad by filling out this Google form. Tell yo friendz!

New(ish) stuff from local (+ occasionally, once-local) artists we love, listed in no order whatsoever:
