4.29 A wknd w/ Tilden
The band on empanadas, becoming BFFs with the pavement and their Saturday-night show (+ birthday bonanza!) at Baby's All Right
While it would be all too easy to file the last two years under NOT FUN and WTF, MAN and UH, NO THANK YOU (all fair!), there have also been some undeniable high notes and some incredible things that have come out of the last 24 months.
We’re not talking about a newfound appreciation for the simple things, the ca$h mon3y we made on Zoom and Peloton stock or our exponentially improved bread-baking abilities—oh no. (And not just because we still don’t know shit about the stock market!) (Or sourdough!) (Because, for the record, we don’t!)
Obviously, we’re talking about music.
Whether as a result of more free time, major inspiration, the new appeal of digital collaboration, suddenly separated bandmates or conveniently cohabitating creatives, over the last two years, awesome brand-new acts and instant supergroups have sprung up all over the borough—
Wetsuit and Punchlove. Phantom Handshakes and Gal Fieri. Slow Fiction and 95 Bulls.
Along with the pandemic, since 2020 there’s been a bona fide Brooklyn bandemic (™™™™™™™), and along with the rad groups above, one of our favorite bands that’s come out of this time just so happens to be the one starring in this weekend’s SETLIST.
We’re talking, of course, about Tilden.
After suddenly seeing the name and the band’s familiar faces popping up all over our feed last summer, we DM’d to call dibs on premiering their debut double-drop in July, at which point the group shared their very sweet and extremely COVID-era origin story with us:
“We’re a quarantine band, Juju rallied us all up once we finally all emerged from being inside and we had this weird unspoken agreement to just hang out with each other and write music all the time. This was before any of the vaccines so we had to be super cautious. We’d pile in the van and go to beach write songs on the beach come back to our studio and just work them until we were all happy. We played with names for months and months we thought Tilden was the most suitable because thats where all our inspiration and songs ideas came from.”
Fast-forward a year, and this pod of pals has stayed very much in place—and now, thankfully, you’re allowed in on the action. Having seen the band take the stage on multiple occasions (including our blizzard blast of a 3rd anniversary show back in January and down at SXSW for the OWL showcase in March), we can vouch for the fact that they’re one of the most fun bands in Brooklyn. It’s obvious that Tilden is a group made up of artists who are not just bandmates, but best friends with a real bond, and the resulting energy and enthusiasm is absolutely undeniable—and extremely contagious. This isn’t just an act you want to see live, but six people you really wanna party with…
And—how convenient—this weekend is your opportunity to do both!
Tilden will be hitting the stage at Baby’s All Right SATURDAY NIGHT with Dead Tooth and Carinae to celebrate the earth birth of bassist and best human Kallan Campbell (also of Max Pain and the Groovies and GIFT), and this is a celebration you are very much invited + encouraged to attend. (Tix here!)
As for the rest of the weekend, YOU KNOW HOW IT GOES! Read on for sun, sk8 and more fun plans from the best of frandz—
It’s going to be the greatest of weekends, we know it. Please go forth and enjoy enjoy enjoy it all~

FRIDAY
AM:
The sun is finally shining again! That means tank tops and chilling in the park! Maria Hernandez is always a lovely start to the weekend for us Bushwick folk. Nothing like soaking the sun up while watching the Bushwick eccentrics promenading through their day, or watching some skateboarders snap some kick-flips, heck, sometimes we’ll do some too!
Once we’ve worked up an appetite we can munch on some elotes from the local carts, or take a little bike ride to Love, Nelly to lay the smack down on some perfectly cooked empanadas procured by the loveliest angel, Angel (who, will probably working a show at The Broadway later that night). So we say our goodbyes, or rather, “see-you-laters!”
Lunch-Time:
A few us enjoy bouldering at VITAL, it’s a great way to stay in shape while having fun. After burning some calories at the climbing gym, it’s time for a breakfast burrito (for lunch) from our good friend Wilfredo who manages Weekends, a quaint cafe adjacent to Pokito, the best bar in Brooklyn owned by the best bosses and owners, Tash and Jisho !
Evening:
Come nightfall you’ll typically find Kallan and Tash (the owner of Pokito) holding down Pokito’s bar, serving drinks until close. If not at Pokito, you’ll find one of us frequenting one of the many local musician haunts like OWL, The Broadway, or Old Timers. Speaking of Old Timers, you can catch our friends TVOD and So and So playing a rare show at OT’s on the 29th!
SATURDAY
AM:
Our band name is Tilden, and not by any coincidence to the name of our favorite beach in the Rockaways! As a band, we are very much so creatures of the sun and will definitely seek it out any way we can! Anyways, after a day of swimming, tanning, and chucking a frisbee at each other, and trying to keep the ocean from swallowing our beloved disk, we go to Tacoway and get some of their fish tacos, washed down with some margaritas of course.
Lunch-Time:
Speaking of the beach, we have a headlining show on July 3rd with Tea Eater, Tight Lips, Miranda and the Beat, and Charmaine from Nevva DJ’ing tasty morsels at Rippers!
But on a typical Saturday afternoon you can find Juju at Pokito for a chat and cocktail!
Evening:
We love sushi, but who doesn’t? A quaint, family-owned spot in Bushwick aptly called Sushi Noodles is a great spot to feel like you’re a guest in someone’s home as they prepare you a couple tuna rolls or a hot bowl of udon.
SUNDAY
AM:
We’re inevitably hungover from the festivities of the weekend, and what better way to cure a hangover then some Tina’s!? There’s something most comforting about eating at an establishment where the owner, who the business is named after, is serving you the eggs and potatoes. We love Tina!
Lunch-Time:
If we can’t beat the hangover with some eggs and potatoes, then we head over to EZ Lover and have Ryan whip up some hair-of-the-dog as we watch skate videos on the projector and recount how awesome the weekend’s shows were. If we’re feeling extra energetic we might jaunt over to Blue Park to skate. You know, keep our legs working and our relationship with the pavement intimate.
Evening:
By the end of the weekend maybe we’ve had enough of bars and music, so we set up camp in Cooper Park with a blanket, a couple 12-ers, and a light up frisbee where we run around like a pack of wild dogs chasing after a laser pointer. We laugh, frolic, and dance till our beloved sun rises again !
