The Calgary band on comedy hazing, recovery smoothies and their show TONIGHT at Alphaville
HAPPY FRIDAY!
It’s an integral part of the American condition—particularly over the last, oh, eight years—to romanticize Canada. The maple syrup! The moose(s)! The mounties! Friendly people! Universal healthcare! Politicians who are probably also not that great in all actuality but hey we don’t live there and they kind of seem pretty okay from afar!!
But most importantly, there is… THE MUSIC. By far the most valuable of resources and important of imports—
And we’re not just talkin’ Celine Dion.
In T-minus 6ish hours, we shall be receiving a glorious sonic gift from above by way of Sunglaciers—the “life changing/affirming/ruining band” from Calgary, whose new album Regular Nature dropped in March and who will be hitting the Alphaville stage in our Bushwick backyard TONIGHT with O. Wake, Smith Taylor and Sam Zalta!
Join us as we spiritually, physically and emotionally prepare via music video…
And get pumped to catch—and idk maybe propose to?!—the band tonight.
Sweet songs AND dual citizenship?! A girl can dream…
Read on for a weekend itinerary crafted by these very cool Canadians, and meet us at Alphaville as we give the sure-to-be-sweethearts (a stereotype that’s gotta be true!!!) a warm, weird NYC welcome.
C U THERE! 🇨🇦

FRIDAY
Ok, bear with us as we're not from around here. Gonna be all wide-eyed n shit. We come to on early Friday afternoon, somewhere in Ridgewood. You meet us there. We should probably get lunch, and we're always feeling like Mexican. We'll get a burrito bowl at Ridgewood Taco Factory and work it off with some hackey sack near Rosemary's Playground. Don't worry if you aren't any good or if it's been decades since you tried. You'll pick it up quick.
We'll walk around for a few minutes before getting in the van and heading to Alphaville in Bushwick, where you're gonna watch us play a stacked show later tonight with our buds O. Wake, Sam Zalta, and Smith Taylor. To be safe, let's grab a slice somewhere before (and after, probably) the show. You can watch us do soundcheck and play more hack behind the venue until the show starts. The venue is packed. All the Bands do BK subscribers are here! The bands all rip ass. You dance your butt off and maybe work the merch table for us while we're on stage (?). Out for a drink on a local's recommendation (or urs) afterwards to celebrate another successful visit to NYC. Find your way back to where you're crashing and we'll do the same.
SATURDAY
Wake up late, on a floor in a friend's apartment. Maybe you are greeted by a cuddly cat or a small energetic dog. Today is the day to walk off the escapades from night before, gather bearings, drink six coffees, and get lost. It's probably getting warm outside, so we'll find a park bench or patch of grass to recollect and take in a breeze.
We freshen up at and make our way to Manhattan. Hit up North Dumpling for a cheap and delicious snack, then go reserve a spot at the Comedy Cellar for the late show! Stuff our faces at Upside Pizza to get the mains taken care of. Then we'll sip on something caffeinated at Cafe Reggio; it's gonna be a long night. You're in view of the velvet rope and can see when they start letting folks in. You're seated at one of the tables in the front row, and are berated by top tier comics all evening because you're hanging out with silly Canadians in a silly band.
After that, we'll head back to Ridgewood to check out Milo's Yard. In our fantasy world, this is a night where Greg Thrasher and Chris Georges are doing one of their Macrodose light shows! (I don't think this is actually happening this weekend but do make sure you get out to see one of these). The party is gonna go late and there's no telling if or when we'll get to bed.
SUNDAY
We wake up bright and early at noon on Sunday, realizing we've had two big nights in a row and really need to replenish our systems. Ask around and find the best smoothie in the neighborhood. Order two each. Then, sadly, it's time for this band to make its way to the next town, and for us to say our goodbyes. You go home and put some laundry on, and we'll hit the road. Or maybe you convince us to join you and your friends at TV Eye or Union Pool cause there's another hot show happening tonight. Maybe we skip our next tour stop and stay in New York forever. Until next time!
