2.24 A wknd w/ Night Spins
The band on coconut doughnuts, a "bananas" mushroom stand and this weekend's WINTER MADNESS finals at Our Wicked Lady
ARRRRRE YOU READAAAAYYYYYY TO RUMBLLLLLLLLLLLLLLE?!
Forget Team Edward or Jacob, Aniston or Jolie. The most relevant rivalry (that also, uh, isn’t from ~2003) is that between newfound nemeses — for one evening, at least — Uncle Skunk and Night Spins, who are taking each other on TONIGHT in the semi-finals of WINTER MADNESS, Our Wicked Lady’s annual battle of the bands!
CHOOSE YOUR FIGHTER, FOLKS (according to this ~lively~ comments section, each band has got some pretty passionate fans), then show up six hours early to tailgate on the sidewalk, paint your face and/or body and then enter the arena to cheer them on as they fight to the (mostly metaphorical) death.
Then, please remember: Everyone’s a winner, okay?
Listen, as we mentioned, we’re not in the business of playing favorites (we were talkin’ weekends with Uncle Skunk just last month!), but having caught Night Spins for the first time last weekend (wow), we have gotta say that the Southern-born / Brooklyn-based purveyors of “garage pop laced with city grit, dark humor, and rock 'n' roll attitude” put on a prettttay sick show, and tonight’s showdown—rounded out with The Dracu-las vs. Pons—is def destined to be one for the ages.
THAT SAID… if you prefer to party in a less competitive setting, with all of the sick tunes and none of the scorecards, never fear. You can also catch Night Spins on Friday, March 17 for St. Paddy’s Day at Arlene’s Grocery, where they will be sharing the stage with Papi Shiitake, Kissed by an Animal and Ray McGale, who will be performing one of his famous POWER HOUR sets, in which he throws down 60 seconds of 60 covers in 60 minutes.
That’s what we call SHAMROCK N ROLL, BABY! (We are so sorry.) Grab your tickets here.
Alright! Enough intro, more itinerary. Plz read on for a sweet lil set o’ plans from Night Spins, who—beyond the band brawl—have offered you recs for dogs, donuts, yoga, burlesque brunch, mushrooms and more—
Then get out there and have a good weekend. Shouldn’t be too hard…
