2.22 A wknd w/ Fair Visions
Ryan Work on stellar slices, Donut Saturday® and their show TONIGHT at Our Wicked Lady
While the name Fair Visions implies art of the sort you see—a sweet feast… a corneacopia, even…for the eyes—or perhaps the kind you imagine—a supernatural transmission of sweet treats—hearing is actually the sense to which artist Ryan Work caters, with sound as their specialty and music (well, obviously) as their medium.
So tell your eyes to move over; it’s the ears’ turn to eat. And LIKE KINGS THEY SHALL with a full-blown banquet of dreamy indie-rock action, served up by Fair Visions — along with Little Slugger, Otracami and gobbinjr—TONIGHT at NIGHT 4 of the BdBK February residency at Our Wicked Lady!
But back to Fair Visions. There are currently two EPs out by the Queens-based (by way of Franklin, Tennessee) project: the 2020 debut EP A Way Out and the 2021 follow-up Modern Kids.
Fair Visions’ new LP Quite an End drops May 7th, and Ryan just released the new single “I Want You, Babe”—featuring backing vocals from BdBK bff Leah Lavigne of Ok Cowgirl!—on Valentine’s Day. (Which kinda makes this a single-release show of sorts—in case you need an extra reason to celebrate.)
“‘Quintessential’ comes to my mind when thinking of ‘I Want You, Babe’ in the FV catalog,” Ryan shared of the track earlier this week. “A song inspired by past love, heartache, being grateful - captured by talented friends and musicians, big and epic and finally out there. Can’t wait to bring it to life this Thursday - come out, y’all ❤️🎉”
YOU HEARD THE ARTIST! Head to OWL tonight, and when it comes to the rest of the weekend… well, let’s just say there’s a lot of donuts and pizza in your future. And absolutely no one can be mad about that.
Enjoy!
[BUT FIRST: PRESS PLAY]
Hey hey! Ryan Work here, quite happy to guide you to an idyllic coffee and pizza filled BK/Queens weekend.
THURSDAY
Thursday morning I’m working - but after stopping by the café to say hello and get some jo I’d recommend heading to the Montrose stop. Grab you a donut from Dunwell and go to 19Cafe to pair it with best breakfast toast in BK. If it’s not too cold out meet up at Cooper Park to toss a frisbee and lay out in the sun a while. Get the upside down Sicilian slice and a can of Pepsi from Carmine’s and head to Our Wicked Lady for the gig! Grab y
FRIDAY
Friday has to start with Milk & Pull for a recovery bagel and brew, tell Gabe I sent ya. Do some crate diving at Deep Cut Records, and for dinner grab a burrito from Bushwick Taco Company to have while watching the sunset at Irving Square Park.
SATURDAY
For Donut Saturday® we’re heading to Ridgewood’s best, Rudy’s Café, to say hey to Toni and have a chocolate-sprinkled donut. Later go check out what new stuff they’ve got at Gotham Thrift, say hey to Billy and take a moment to make sure you got your tickets for Sharkswimmer’s Sunday gig. To wind down the evening get a slice from Mano’s and have a nightcapped game of pool at Windjammer.
SUNDAY
Sunday I’d recommend doing some yoga and getting a Cholita coffee - do what you gotta do to get centered for the day and week ahead. Read a book, take in the news, gather your thoughts and get ready for another week of good and bad and everything in between. The perfect end to this incredibly indulgent weekend would have to be with a slice from Fazio’s and cocktail from Phil’s off Knickerbocker.
Thanks so much Sam for having us be a guide to the show weekend! Stoked to celebrate our single release tonight.
