2.17 A wknd w/ Pan Arcadia
The band on underground Chinese, Lucky Dog x 3, and their Friday-night release show at Mercury Lounge
First Taylor Swift and now THIS?!
First, the bad news: If you were hoping to catch Pan Arcadia tonight, you’ll have to sweet talk a band member, bribe a bouncer or sliiiiiide into the DMs of the sound guy, because the band’s Mercury Lounge show is SOLD THE FUCK OUT, BABY!
That means the venue is set to be packed with 250 friends, fans and followers who were lured in by Pan Arcadia’s stream of singles (~10 in 2022-3); had their attention captured via cover (Beyonce, baby? Beatles, maybe? Vampire Weekend from ~2008-y?); or, like Rolling Stone’s David Frick, discovered and fell in love with the band while they were busking in Washington Square Park. (DF later played them on his SiriusXM show The Writer's Block, nbd.)
Whatever it was precisely/personally that led you to become a member of the Pan Arcadia fan club (we joined on Halloween 2022 after seeing the band don high-heeled boots to transform into the New York Dolls) is not the point. What is far more important, of course, is what exactly we the Pan Fans (?)… Arcadians(?)….uh, we’ll workshop it… will be gathering to toast tonight: Pan Arcadia, the band’s (obviously) self-titled debut album— out everywhere NOW!
🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
So, some good news. Whether or not you make it out for the ~Pan Arcadia Mania~ tonight, there is plentaaaay more weekend where that came from, and the band has oh-so-kindly-and-conveniently provided a plan for it below.
Turn up the 15-track album—packed with what the musicians describe as “propulsive yet soulful rock; melding CBGB-era guitars with Motown horns”—and rock ‘n’ scrollllll for a sure-to-be-rad weekend.
HAPPY FRIDAY! Hope to see ya out there… somewhere.
[BUT FIRST: PRESS PLAY]
FRIDAY
You’re gonna wanna kick your weekend off at Lucky Dog. Get yourself a thick spicy Bloody Mary and get goin!
From there take it to Vanessa’s Dumpling House across the street. Get yourself some dumplings so you can keep drinking.
Bring them back to Lucky Dog and have another Bloody Mary while you’re eating them. Keep the buzz going.
Then mosey on over to Rockarolla for a couple pints of Guinness to keep you warm. Once you’re good and ready head to the Mercury Lounge for the Pan Arcadia album release show! It’s a party you don’t wanna miss.
SATURDAY
Saturday’s a great day to get outside and feel the breeze. Hop outta bed and roll over to Washington Square Park where you can catch one of our regular summer sets. Bring some beers bring some weed and kick back in the sunlight. Always a good time.
After a long day in the park you’re gonna wanna haul ass to China Town and find your way down some stairs to Wo Hop. Start your night with some kickass Chinese and cheap beers.
That’s enough Manhattan for one day.. hop on the train back to Brooklyn. If you wanna rage, visit TV EYE for a party. If you need chill, stop by The West on your way home for a nightcap and then get in your sweatpants and watch a movie. S
SUNDAY
Sunday is a simple day. A day for recovery. Great hangover food can be found at Williamsburg Pizza. Nice crispy greasy slices to fend off the headache.
Go home and have a midday jam with the gang. Or a tense band practice. Or a fun one! Just make some music before the work week starts again.
Wind down the weekend where you started it off, at the wonderful Lucky Dog. Our favorite place. Have a bloody or a beer and be grateful for what you have. Go home and conk.
