12.3 A wknd w/ Moon Kissed
The band on trivia night, Sunday sunsets at Sunny's and the first oh-so-sweet night of their three-Friday residency at Trans-Pecos
It’s not often that life gives you a second chance, but on the rare occasion you do have another shot at something awesome, well… we suggest you take it.
In this case, the very rad opportunity we’re referring to is CAN’T DENY THE CHEMISTRY PT. II, the sequel to Moon Kissed’s first rager of a residency, which took place a few Decembers ago at Muchmore’s (RIP) and is being reprised at Trans-Pecos by the trio starting TONIGHT!
When Khaya, Leah and Emily told us about the first residency, they described the round of parties as being being borne of “an intense desire to be a part of something bigger than us” and also as a middle finger of sorts to LCD Soundsystem’s “New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down”—a bold attempt to demonstrate that their community has the energy, power and passion to summon and unleash the very electricity that James Murphy claims has vanished from the city.
And as anyone who’s been to a Moon Kissed show knows, the proof is alllllll up in that pudding.
The previous parties were themed what else but Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll, and as we’ve been suffering from a massive case of retroactive FOMO ever since hearing about them, we couldn’t be more stoked for round two: three evenings dubbed Sugar (12/3), Spice (12/10) and Everything Nice (12/18). While we don’t know exactly what the artists have up their sleeves for the series, we imagine it’s set to be a Moon Kissed show on steroids, and while there’s no doubt we’ll be absolutely destroyed by the end of December, hey—we honestly wouldn’t have it any other way.
The fun kicks off TONIGHT, and in honor of the festivities, we had the group go ahead and plan the rest of your weekend too. Blast some Moon Kissed, put on your sweetest ensemble and go give the band some sugar tonight. Then go forth and enjoy the rest of the weekend—
Let’s make it a weird one.

FRIDAY
Welcome to casual Friday baby. Leave work early, or take the day off. You fucking deserve it. Plus, you need to go home and get ready for night one of our residency at Trans-Pecos. Moon Kissed shows have a reputation for introducing people to the loves of their lives, and this could be your lucky night ;)
The theme is sugar. Khaya will be wearing a bright pink fur coat from Brooklyn Vintage Company, so maybe you’ll head there to pick out an outfit that fits the theme. Remember, you can be anyone you want tonight, so don’t hold back.
After you go shopping, pick a spot to pregame, of course while listening to our album and Sir Chloe, who’ll be playing tonight with us too. We recommend a brewery close to the venue in Ridgewood, maybe Evil Twin or Bridge & Tunnel. Or if you’re looking for something more romantic and the weather’s clear, pick up some 40s and watch the sunset at Marsha P. Johnson Park. Go down by the rocks, the view is gorgeous. But no worries if you don’t make it on time for the sunset, we’ll be partying ‘til sunrise so you can catch it on the flip.
CAN’T DENY THE CHEMISTRY PT. II BEGINS TONIGHT. 7pm doors. There will be art, tattoos, games, performances, and DJ’s. If you missed the first one you’re in for a treat. The point of these parties is to feel a buzz and excitement, meet the love of your life, have a fling that you get giddy about seeing week after week. They’re meant to be continuations, to build on each other and finish what you’ve started. LET’S GET WEIRD!
The afterparty. We’re not gonna tell you where this is because you can’t skip dinner and just eat dessert, it’s not healthy. We’ll be at one of 3 places: Queens Brewery, singing our heart out in karaoke or playing cornhole, or dancing at H0l0 or Nowadays. You’ll have to attend the main event in order to find out where we end up deciding to go :)
SATURDAY
We hope you woke up in the arms of a lover, or that you danced so hard there was no chance of being hungover. There’s likely still glitter all over you, and you leave it on because you want to ride the high and make last night’s steamy and magical memories last forever. First things first, if there are still tickets left you should get some for the next two Fridays, and start planning your outfits for and inviting everyone you love to “Spice” and “Everything Nice!” You’ll probably want to continue what you started last night. After snagging those tickets while they’re hot, leave your phone home and go grab a phat coffee and some breakfast at your local spot and go sit somewhere pretty and journal about last night, or about the future. You are incredible and important and you should be documenting your life! It’ll be a great start to the day. Some BK park recs: Prospect, Domino, McGorlick. Or go to Greenwood Cemetery and cry in the gorgeous chapel. Or take the nature walk by Newtown Creek in Greenpoint and sit and watch some cars get destroyed across the way, Emily’s favorite.
Ok so you’re a little hungover. But it’s Saturday Night! You’re gonna fuckin’ rally. Go to The Shanty for high quality and affordable cocktails and a great atmosphere and the best bar staff known to man. Tell them you’re Moon Kissed fam and they’ll likely give you a free shot. Or three.
Our esteemed friend Xavier is hosting a trivia night that we will be attending and d e s t r o y i n g. Come lose to us in trivia at The Daily Press. Then we’ll go play pool somewhere to close out the night. Probably Nightshade.
SUNDAY
Time to wind down from the weekend. Get a group of friends together and go to a cozy breakfast at Tina’s! Then walk around Bushwick -- Go to the Linden Hill Jewish cemetery up in Ridgewood and check out some of the beautiful tombs with stained glass in them.
Take a nice ferry ride!!! NYC Ferries are the same price as the subway and they’re so fun. Take one to Red Hook and then go grab a sunset drink at Sunny’s! Hopefully it’ll be accompanied by a swing band playing that swing song from Star Wars, because that’s what happened last time we went.
End the weekend with a nice dinner. We recommend Bunna Cafe or Dinosaur BBQ :)

MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS
It’s BANDCAMP FRIDAY, BABEZ, and the site is waiving all fees! We all know the real thing your fill-in-the-blank family member (dad? cousin? grandma?) back in the Midwest wants is a t-shirt with the name of a Brooklyn band on it. HELP THEM BE HIP! And support some of our faves while you’re at it.
Stick it to the man (mostly Bezos) this holiday season and shop small at local markets featuring local artists selling cool stuff. Head to Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden for a Queer Holiday Makers Market hosted by Dave’s Lesbian Bar that features seven hours of live music from BdBK faves like Lily Mao, Ok Cowgirl, Tenderheart Bitches and more. Pokito is also hosting a four-day Holiday Market (December 4/5/11/12) that kicks off this weekend w/ 20+ vendors. Go forth and buy some thangz.
In Cool Stuff News, Gustaf’s song “Mine” was recently remixed by the band’s v casual BFF Beck. Listen now and read the convo between one of our fave local acts and the ~international superstar~ in Interview Mag here. Oh, and Gustaf also just announced a tour. Get it while it’s hot, y’all!
