11.5 A wknd w/ Consumables
The band on schvitzing, secret psychedelic sound baths and their Saturday-night EP release show at TV Eye
!TGIF! DO THE DAMN THING WITH CONSUMABLES
If there’s one thing we like, it’s a party. And if there’s one thing Consumables bring, it’s that.
We were first introduced to the linear post-punk band when they opened for Grim Streaker at the beloved BK band’s one and only show of 2021 at The Broadway in September. As anyone who’s seen Amelia Bushell go absolutely (beautifully) apeshit on stage knows, she sets the bar pretttaaay high on the live-performance front, and Consumables had no problem meeting the Grim group on their level and setting the vibe for what def ended up being one of the most fun and wild shows of the summer.
While we don’t always recruit bands for content, Consumables was one we hunted down, and a few weeks later, we were super pumped to premiere the music video for their debut single “Numbers and a Barcode, ” which— inspired by the firsthand experience of guitarist + vocalist Kyle Crew—is centered around the fucked-up nature of our justice system, linking the emotions one goes through while incarcerated to the universally understood feelings of boredom, isolation and fear that were enhanced to the extreme during the pandemic.
Fast-forward a couple months, and I’m stoked to share that Consumables’ debut EP Already Here is HERE, and the boys are celebrating with an unbelievably sick bill featuring some of BK’s sickest bands (some of whom are also, rumor has it, their b-ball buddies), Big Bliss, Joudy and BODEGA Ben, THIS SATURDAY NIGHT at TV Eye.
Grab your tix to see what’s been one of the best openers we’ve caught in their rightful headlining slot, and then build out the rest of your weekend based on Consumables’ rad recs, as outlined below—
Penis tattoos totally optional.

FRIDAY
Kick off your Friday with a workout to get the juices flowing. Whether it's b-ball, rock climbing, or muay thai - we like to get our sweat on. Hector is a muay thai trainer and could show you a thing or two... Matter of fact - when he’s not behind the kit- you may find him bashing some poor guy with a muay thai kick to the face.
Next, you got to look the part as well. Reward yourself with a spontaneous tattoo. Pop into your favorite shop or DM your pal on instagram and see if you can slide in for some quick flash. Our pal Emmaline has used some of us as a canvas…
Do tattoos really tell a story? Are they merely vanity? Or, are they just badges on insecurity? No matter how you analyze it, you’re going to want to fit in with whatever the homogenized, hipster fashion du jour is.
Fun fact: one member of Consumables has a tattoo on his penis. First person that can guess who gets a special prize!
Now that you have the moves of Ryu from Street Fighter and the fresh ink, head over to The Broadway to watch our friends in Six Time Users shred.
SATURDAY
Wake up and get ready to be immersed! We’re a cultured bunch of lads in Consumables, in case you didn't know. DRIFT: Fragile Future is currently at The Shed and a must see. It’s called ART- ever heard of it?
After that you may want a snacky. When Kyle’s not dancing like an ass clown on stage, he’s helping run The World’s Your Oyster Co. They’ll be shucking it up at Congress Bar in Cobble Hill. Let them know you’re going to the Consumables show tonight for 2 free oysters!
Lastly, you have the main attraction for this weekend - the Consumables EP Release show! Do a bit of pre-gaming, grab some pals, and get your ass over to TV Eye. Months and months of hard labor leading up to this moment - be there to witness the magic.
SUNDAY
There’s no doubt you’re feeling rough after the show. We get it. But we got the medicine. Nothing gets those toxins out like a nice schvitz.
Kyle actually has a sauna in his apartment (and recorded an accompanying ambient album), but unfortunately it's not currently open to the public. Enjoy a schvitz in one of the many bath houses this great city has to offer.
Now that you’re feeling human again - it's time to blast off!
All the buzz is about microdosing psychedelics. Microdosing refers to a “sub-perceptual” amount of a psychedelic compound. While it is the latest trend amongst tech nerds in silicon valley, research shows little efficacy in producing better emotional states, or an uptick in creativity and energy.
Consumables like to macrodose. If you don’t want to crank it up to 11, at least make sure the dosage is undeniable. We can’t legally suggest you take a macrodose of psychedelics, but we are also NOT going to say you should not, i.e. “just do it” (trademarked by Consumables).
Spend the next few hours mediating and ruminating over the lessons learned on your “trip.” Integrate them into your daily life.
P.s.: We may even know the secret locations of some psychedelic sound baths - if you ask nicely.
Lastly, if you are feeling inspired - you can close out the weekend by making some art. You’ve got to get some of THAT out of your system too. We spend a lot of time at Chemistry Creative, a BK based production house that works with a lot of up and coming creators.
Whether it's a photoshoot, music video or dance project...hit them up and see if you can swing by for a session. They can make you look cool, like they did for us jamming in front of a giant LED wall.

MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS
It’s BANDCAMP FRIDAY, BABY! And the site is waiving all fees. Digitally run don’t digitally walk and pick up some music + merch to support your fave artists now.
In the interest of helping artists find shows + build bills, we’re attempting an open-source live-music match-making service in the form of a very fancy free-to-edit Google Sheet (here!). If you’re looking to play more shows or find bands to join a bill, drop in your info and let’s make some music magic happen.
Our favorite friends at Favorite Friend Records are looking for an intern with “strong organizational, analytical, and multi-tasking skills” to “be involved in building artist brands and their fan bases.” Oh, and “most importantly, must have a love for independent artists and the drive to jump right in.” Email favoritefriendrecords@gmail.com if interested.
Applications are open for Our Wicked Lady’s WINTER MADNESS 2022—an epic 8-night battle of the bands in February in which 16 groups duke it out for a $5,000 grand prize! The application fee is $35 until 11/30 and then $45 from 12/1-12/25. Apply here—and good luck.
If you’ve submitted a Classifieds ad recently WE ARE VERY SORRY because WE ARE VERY BEHIND. There will be an ad blitz going down next week, so keep an eye/ear out. And thanks for your patience.
