1.13 A wknd w/ All Killer No Filler
Brooklyn's live karaoke band on weed delivery, coffee-shop (uh) rituals and Saturday night's pop-punk/emo karaoke at EWEL
Listen, we could’ve gotten Gwen Stefani to do this SETLIST.
Billy Joe Armstrong or Ben Gibbard might have been a nice choice.
Gerard Way would’ve done a A+ job.
Or maaaaybe Mark, Tom and Travis… even Matt Skiba?!
But WHY would we recruit any of them when we can have all of those artists—and more—combined!? (Wait for it…)
We’re talkin, of course, about ALL KILLER NO FILLER, Brooklyn’s liiiiiive pop-punk karaoke purveyors who have all your favorite hits down to a sonic science—
All that’s missing, of course, is the vocalist. And that, friends, where you come in.
Live karaoke is going down THIS SATURDAY at Econo Lodge, and the band describes the event in the following way:
“Choose from a library of over 100 pop-punk/emo/alternative hits from the ‘90s and early 2000s, including artists such as Green Day, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Paramore, and of course, Blink-182 (among many, many others). AKNF plays your favorite songs, on stage, with members of the audience taking lead vocals. Pick a song from the list, grab the mic, and sing it like you f mean it.”
Grab your hair brush and spend this evening rehearsing your rendition of
”First Date” in the bathroom like it’s 2000-whatever all over again, then head out to the lodge TOMORROW NIGHT and show off your skills when the band hits the stage for 3+ hours in the sickest and safest of spaces. (Info here.)
As for the rest of the weekend: Again, NOTHIN’ BUT THE HITS, BABY! AKNF has got you covered with a sweet, sweet SETLIST perfectly befitting of a soon-to-be-star like you.
Have a great weekend ! Watch out for the paparazzi on your way out…
[BUT FIRST: PRESS PLAY]
Alright, so we have a jam packed weekend. Long Island. EWEL. Baltimore. String of three shows which we’re calling the “New Year, Old You” tour. You know… cause it’s funny. We’re five friends playing 20+ year old pop-punk/emo covers, opening up the mic up to whoever wants to destroy a room with their performance of “Linoleum”.
While we wish we could take you through an entire weekend of us dicking around, here’s a rock solid list of places we’d likely be if we weren’t tied up — and spots we cherish when we dick around on a more intermittent basis.
FRIDAY JANUARY 13
The West: 379 Union Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211
A favorite and a staple ever since we abused the perks of our friends bartending and/or serving as baristas over the years. (This we still do today.) Post up and chain smoke on the patio for a birthday. Dance to the always appropriate music taste of the staff. Destroy your body with too many drinks. Then go back in the morning and get yourself a flat white, banana bread and a poop.
Baked in Bushwick: 1087 Flushing Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11237
This is less a destination than it is a place we’ll be calling before we hit the road. Buds (coo). Pre-rolls (lazy). Edibles (sure). Vape stuff (alright just a little one). They’ll hook you up. Support your local weed delivery service.
Bar Freda: 801 Seneca Ave, Queens, NY 11385
We might be biased, but we love Zach Rescignano. He’s doing sound for us at EWEL Saturday, and his band Awful Din is playing Friday @ 7pm. Great band. Just put out a music video for their song “Five Story” too. They’ll be joining the likes of Ultra Deluxe, I Love You I Love You, Career Day, and Starlybri who will make you wiggle in place while you stand firm with one hand in your left pocket you cool kid you.
SATURDAY
East Williamsburg Econo Lodge: 1 Meadow St, Brooklyn, NY 11206
Oh boy we’re so excited to play EWEL. The main f event. This one’s going to be extra special because Desert Sharks are gonna take the stage at the end of the night to record a music video for a song from their new record The Tower, coming out in the spring. And if you know Econo, you know… it's a vibe. And so is this whole night. We couldn’t be more excited to be playing in our stomping grounds, especially a week after the Band Lottery which puts EWEL and community so top of mind for everyone in the local scene. I mean, Daily actually OK’d us buying white claws lol. It's gonna rip. Stephanie Augello’s gonna be there too, snapping flicks n making you all look dope af.
Human Head: 289 Meserole St, Brooklyn, NY 11206
Great record shop just around the corner from Econo. See if you can find a Sunny Day Real Estate or Jawbreaker record n try to convince the band to learn ‘real emo’.
Fedoroff’s Roast Pork: 178 N 10th St, Brooklyn, NY 11211
Half the band is from Philly which means we all now have very high standards for a cheesesteak. This place is the best you’re gonna get outside of Philly itself. And even then, they’d be on a level playing field. Owners are friends of the band as well. Order a whiz wit, watch the Goodfellas playing on an infinite loop, and enjoy one of life’s best offerings: a 5-pound sandwich.
SUNDAY
All Night Skate: 54 Rockaway Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11233
Not sure how far East y’all are venturing these days, but if you’re ever in Ocean Hill, this is the best cocktail bar/brunch spot in the area. Roller-skate rink themed and opened by the couple behind Bushwick’s Little Skip coffee shop. See plug via Grub Street.
Fan-Fan Doughnuts: 448 Lafayette Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205
L'industrie Pizzeria: 254 S 2nd St, Brooklyn, NY 11211
Everyone’s got a spot. We stand by this one.
