!TGIF! DO THE DAMN THING WITH JESSX
GOOD MORNING! (We’re using the term loosely here.) Let’s get into it—
This week we were bombarded by an insane amount of sick new tunes, and we had the massive privilege—after meeting the artist in the crowd of the My Son The Doctor EP release show at The Broadway last month—of premiering Baby Faced, the new record from JessX, which serves as “a collection of songs of [her] first year here in New York.”
ICYMI, the record totally rips—even moreso when you consider the fact that the Oahu-bred, Brooklyn-based artist, though she’d been writing songs her entire life, had never picked up an instrument until recently. On Baby Faced, JessX juxtaposes the tough and the tender as she rides the tonal trapeze, swinging between different styles of delivery—singing, shouting, shrieking and what could perhaps best be described as beautifully bitching someone out—over the course of 11 tracks that run the emotional gamut, infusing punchy punk with heart-melting ukulele moments as she tackles subjects ranging from sibling bonds to queer love and loathing—plus, in perfect punk fashion (“Cuz it’s my fucking life!”), the requisite middle finger to the man. And you better believe it’s a goddamn delight to behold.
Last night the artist celebrated the album with a show at TV Eye, and while it turns out that the only thing harder to read than metal font is medieval font, after squinting at the poster for the record release // renaissance fair for some time, it appears there was apple bobbing, a fashion show and free… fairy?… ears. All accompanying, what we imagine, was a seriously sick performance.
If that gave you serious retroactive FOMO, we’re sorry (we sadly didn’t make it out for the jamming/jousting either!), but fortunately there are still ~2.5 whoppin’ days of weekend left yet, so naturally we asked JessX to provide her recs. While this set of plans is short and sweet—and, for the record, includes no knights, fair maidens nor disturbingly large and greasy drumsticks—that’s A-OK. After all, not every weekend needs to be ~*~*~CrAzY~*~*~ … and sometimes it’s just nice to get a little stoned with some really good snacks. Enjoy—

FRIDAY
Treat yourself, you’ve had a long week of bullshit. Time to fancy it up and eat at Dock Asian Eatery on Wyckoff. Order the pork buns and pineapple fried rice. It is so delicious. For dessert, get the mango sticky fried rice, it is amazing.
After dinner, time for a journey. Invite more homies to come with you to do karaoke at Sing Sing in Manhattan. Being completely sober is optional. You at least have to do one Nicki Minaj song. Real legends know that.
SATURDAY
Start your day by going to your nearest grocery store and getting avocados, eggs, red peppers, and mushrooms. You then are gonna make the best egg stir fry of your entire life. Don't mix avocados obviously. That’s for the toast. Avocado toast is a basic start to your morning but it is so fire.
After your filled up meal, you should head over to Flamingos Vintage on 1st Ave. in Manhattan. Everything there is priced by the pound which is really sick. The workers there are also so hot.
Flamingos also has a back area to chill and kick back with your homies.
After thrifting you want to go back home and take a nap for a couple hours.
After your nap it’s time to go to TV Eye and dance with your friends. End the night dancing away.
SUNDAY
You are so tired from these weekend’s festivities. Stay home and binge watch this UK show my friends put me on called Peep Show. Being high before watching could be the move. Make sure to have snacks prepared prior. I would say buffalo wing pretzels, flaming hot ruffles, acai chocolate berries, ranch corn nuts, and buncha cruncha crunch. End the night sleepy and ready for another week.
Itinerary above written + submitted by JessX. Follow JessX at @babyfacedfatherx and add the songs to your Spotify playlists!

It’s been WAY TOO LONG since we made a WAY TOO LONG playlist, and BdBK Vol. 14 is here! Enjoy those three hours and 13 minutes of sonic sweetness. You earned ‘em.
