HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH! While this is traditionally a date known—for the superstitious among us—as being unlucky, we’re about to counter that trend, baby! That’s because, as of the moment you opened this email, you have become the very lucky recipient of….
A LOT OF GOOD MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!
(Really, what else were you expecting?)
Bands do BK Vol. 19 hath arrived, and per usual, it’s full of new(ish) songs from local faves old and new, in not much of an order at all. (Special shoutout to the Obleek song, which I, Sam, have listened to ~400 times already.)
That’s all to say, this week you get a PLAYLIST instead of THE SETLIST and ergo the opportunity to take this soundtrack and go forth and choose your own adventure. (Though if you crave structure, never fear — as always, there’s plenty of inspiration in the archives.)
We’ll be back with an itinerary from Locations—celebrating their EP release at Main Drag on 10/21!—next Friday.
Until then, wishing you a sweet/safe/spooky (in the good way) weekend. And sending lots of love to everyone out there <3
MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS
HUGE thanks to everyone who came out to STRONG LITTLE SONGS on Tuesday, to those who tuned in and donated and to Go Home, Justin Buschardt (of Sharkswimmer), Samkae and co-host Arlo Indigo for performing! Between IRL donations, direct-to-IG fundraising and $100 in BdBK matching, we raised $383 for Trans Lifeline. YAHOO!
Last month Josh Couvares (Couvo) and Charlie Hull (Mary Shelley) premiered their satirical short film, The Drinks Are Always Free in Purgatory, an extension of Josh’s 2022 album of the same title. It’s both a reflection of a very specific—to many, very relatable—reality and an absolute product of it. Plus it’s really fucking funny. It also features cameos from a ton of local artists, serving as a reminder of both the absurd amount of talent in this scene and how willing artists are to come together for the simple sake of creation. Which is, really, such a goddamn beautiful thing. Read our feature on it here.
