10.1 A wknd w/ Razor Braids
The band on dumplings, dancing and double the karaoke—plus a FREE Friday-night show
!TGIF! DO THE DAMN THING WITH RAZOR BRAIDS
Razor Braids is the kind of band that makes us really, really wish we were in a band—on both the music and the friendship fronts.
For a BdBK spotlight on their single “Nashville,” they crafted an ode to the Commodore, sharing stories about getting stoned, exchanging gifts and making magical holiday memories together while going all-in on nachos and boozy frozen bevs. Before their show at The Bowery Union two weeks ago, they downed Fireball shots, danced in front of the merch table and sold (*clean*) underwear emblazoned with the RB logo—all before tearing it up onstage in a performance that concluded with half the band’s members piled on top of each other on the floor. And while we weren’t able to go to their show on Wednesday night, well… we can only imagine what went down then.
But far more important—and even more impressive—than the on-/off-stage shenanigans are, of course, the seriously killer songs. Just this week, the band dropped “Not Dead, Not Yet,” a sick single and music video + the first track off their forthcoming debut full-length record, I Could Cry Right Now If You Wanted Me To—out December 4th. (The best kind of spoiler alert: We’ve listened to it already, and it’s very, very good.)
Now here’s the GREAT NEWS: You have the opp to hear their new song (and more!) (live!) (for free!) TONIGHT at the Hornitos Tequila Presents: A Shot Worth Taking The Concert Series at Union Pool. As for the rest of the weekend, we’ve made a pretty good case for the fact that the RB babes know how to have a good time, so we’re stoked to deliver a handcrafted, totez artisanal itinerary created by the members of one of BK’s best bands.
Buckle up for three days of celebration, relaxation and inspiration. The weekend starts riiiiiight NOW! Enjoy~

FRIDAY
Grab an early dinner with plenty of dumplings at Kings Co Imperial before making your way around 7pm to Union Pool to see the free Razor Braids show. Dance hard. Buy some hand screen-printed Razor Braids merch and wear it over whatever you showed up in for the rest of the night. Keep dancing until your tummy rumbles and then hit up the El Diablo Tacos truck in the backyard and convince your crush to take a picture with you in the photo booth. Afterwards, head over to Alligator Lounge to belt it out at karaoke and get your ass kicked by Hollye in a game of pool.
If you’re a musician, take one more shot at the bar and then head over with your bandmates to your practice space late that night. Revisit that jam you were working on a few weeks back and get a little silly with it. Make everyone switch instruments with each other. You don’t play drums? It’s fine, just hit some shit and have fun.
SATURDAY
Wake up and crawl towards the sunny spot in your bed and give yourself a few extra minutes to bask - maybe you have a dog, maybe a cat, maybe you have three dogs. Take some time and snuggle your little friend(s), they missed you last night while you were out on the town! Your body’s a little sore from dancing yesterday and you have the slightest hangover (that Razor Braids show was sponsored by Hornitos Tequila, after all) so chug 2 BIG glasses of water and then make your way out for an early-ish brunch at Ltuaha. Get a coconut water on the way there from the bodega.
Saturdays are for thrifting. Head over to GG’s Social Trade and Treasures Club, Brooklyn Vintage Company or the Gowanus L Train Vintage. Don’t get those boots, you have enough boots. Well actually, those have a square toe and your go-to ones are pointed so you know what? Maybe you should get the boots. Go nuts! After finding at least one goofy t-shirt and a solid pair of jeans you’re excited about, go check out the rack of blazers. Magically happen upon the world’s most perfect pantsuit - it fits you in all the right places and wait….is that your song playing through the store’s overhead speakers? Maybe it’s “Fire” by Waxahatchee. Maybe it’s not. (It is.) Either way, something in the universe aligns when you’re wearing that pantsuit. Check yourself out in the mirror, let your hair billow in the breeze of the AC, feel unstoppable.
If you have a creative endeavor in mind for this week, stop by an art store and grab the materials you need or let yourself get inspired while you’re there. We love Soho Art Materials on Gardner or Artist & Craftsman Supply (either the Park Slope or Bushwick locations!)
It’s time for dinner. Go sit down at Gordo’s Cantina with a friend. Split the chicken mole enchilada and the rajas con queso burritas and get a cucumber lime margarita. Try all the salsas. No, really. Try. All. The. Salsas.
There’s a lot of great shows happening tonight, you could check out the Di Ivories show at the Broadway and hang out after to hear a DJ set by Kim the Beat or head over to see the Kal Marks show with Editrix and Tetchy. Afterwards, stop by The Bell House for their Britney-themed Party Like It’s 1999 night. Find yourself tearing up a little when they play “Lucky.”
Head home after and wind down as Hollye and Janie would - by taking an edible and watching an episode (or four) of Great British Bake-Off
SUNDAY
You’ve had a big hair chop on your mind for weeks now, and today’s the day to actually follow through with it. Head up to Greenpoint to Wavelength to get the shaggy razor (braids) cut of your dreams. We’ve heard that Wavelength’s stylist is also an incredible drummer….you should ask her about it. On your way up stop at Peter Pan for a donut and coffee or maybe even a bacon egg and cheese.
Jump on the G towards Park Slope to Winner Bakery. The croissants will be sold out by then but it’s lunchtime anyways. Instead, grab either the veggie italian or the cubano, pick up the sourdough of the day for later, and walk over to Prospect Park. Find a shady spot to eat and obsessively listen to the new Razor Braids single over and over and over. Bring a book, lay down for a little. You’ve had a busy weekend. Take a breath. Keep listening to that new single.
Continue relaxing this afternoon. Try to avoid the Sunday scaries and leave any errands for tomorrow. Maybe you head home for a nap and on your way treat yourself to a scoop of ooey gooey butter cake ice cream from Ample Hills or grab a drink and the tempura fries at Hunky Dory, a great Asian-American woman-owned restaurant with some wonderful zines and goodies to browse through inside. On your way back, call someone who loves you and catch up.
Get a second wind and head over to The Broadway for karaoke night. You wish you had done the Alanis Morissette number instead of The Cranberries on Friday and tonight is the time to redeem yourself. Don’t forget to pick up a Strange Flavor dusty-dog or a fried chicken sandwich while you’re there and smile as you watch your friends yelling along to “Kiss From a Rose.” Let yourself sing along with them. It was a good weekend, huh?
